Dear Parent / Guardian:
Welcome to a new and promising year. I am exited be a part of Jennings High School and I
am very happy to meet my new students. Algebra I is the next step on the magical mathematical journey in life. Time spent in this class and at home doing that “brain-wracking” math assignment will help prepare you for tomorrow’s world.
Even though we are facing challenging times I believe that all students can learn and excel in their math education. I will be there to guide them in their quest for higher learning. I also consider parents as my partners in educating their child. I believe students learn mathematics best by first understanding mathematical concepts. Once the students have mastered the concepts and have refined their understanding through sufficient practice, they experience abstract mathematics with success.
With virtual learning, some students will be able to focus more, but others might have difficulty focusing because of distractions of the home environment. Please talk to your child about how to manage their time so they can learn at home.
As the teacher, I will do my best to present the material in an understandable manner. I will post everything to Google Classroom. Students need to check in Google Classroom every day for announcements and new assignments. We are using Zoom for students and teacher face time. So students need to sign in to Zoom during their assigned class time. Our grade allocation value has changed to 40% assignments and 60% test and quizzes.
For some students, math is a breeze, others seem to struggle with every concept; please allow your child to approach math from his /her own direction. Remember, their struggle is part of the learning process. Encourage your child to use the resources available to help her /him do well in math. Working assignments by themselves in mathematics is an essential part of learning. It is necessary for your child to attempt all work assigned. Successful completion of all problems may not always be within their means, but the attempt is learning in itself.
I am sure that this year will be a meaningful learning experience for your child. I am here to help.
